How does the whole process work?

When you visit us, you pick a piece of pottery to paint. This pottery has been fired once already and we call this ‘Bisque’ or ‘Bisqueware’.  We give you all the tools and rules to pottery paint and get the best results and then it’s up to you to let your creativity run wild. We provide a collection of artist aids such as brushes, stamps, and stencils and our trusty Pinterest inspiration boards at your beck and call.

After your painting session, we take your masterpiece away, we dip it in clear glaze and fire it in the kiln; the kiln heats up to high temperatures (just over 1000 degrees) to allow the clear glaze to be solid and glossy, this also allows for your item to be food safe.

When its ready we will contact you for you to collect it (usually within 10-21 days).

We are open Wednesday- Sunday and you will have the 5 days that we are open after your call to collect your piece (unless you have contacted us directly and we’ve agreed otherwise). If you haven’t returned for your piece, or made arrangements with us within the collection time, it’s our policy that any particularly beautiful pieces will join our Charity shelf, and can be bought by visitors with funds raised going towards free charitable pottery painting sessions for those who need it. In line with our policy any other pieces will be disposed of.

Are there many options of what I can paint?

When you visit the studio, you will be able to choose from a wide range of different items to paint. We’re always ordering new and exciting items to paint so you will never get bored. Also, take a look at our workshops which show off the best of the seasonal items.

How long are the pottery painting sessions?

Each session is 90 minutes. We do ask you to respect the turnaround time, especially on weekends and school holidays. On weekdays, these timings are likely more flexible due to less demand, and you are welcome to stay longer if your table is not reserved.

When you book the whole container for a party, the sessions are 2 hours.

How do I book a pottery painting session?

Click the book now button at the top of the screen. We are able to cater for 12 people at a time. It is a lovely space for intimate parties. We do have an overflow area outside the studio which is sometimes available for walk ins dependent on availability. We also offer take-home kits if there is no space in the studio.

How do I book a party or event?

The Package tab will talk you through your options. We can personalise each event to your needs, whether this be a children’s party a hen do, a girls night in, baby shower, gender reveal, book club (anything you can possibly imagine) we can work with you to reach your vision and make your ideas come to life.

For any event, please fill in the enquiry form on the events page and we will give you a call/email to discuss your options, or even better - come into the Studio for a chat.

How do I pay for my pottery?

When you book, you will be asked to pay £5 per head to cover our “Studio fee”. This Studio fee will cover the glazing, full firing process and collection bag. After paying this fee, you simply choose your bisque ware! Each item is individually priced, so you pay for what you paint! It’s good to note that you can paint as many pieces as you want in your allotted time under one studio fee.

How much does everything cost?

  • For in store painting, you pay your £5 studio fee (This covers your glaze, the firing and your collection bag).

  • For your take-home kit, you pay your £7 studio fee (This covers the above, plus 6 paints, a paintbrush and our gorgeous gift wrapping)

  • You then choose your bisque to paint. Items range from £7 - £30.

What is your cancellation policy?

The studio fee is only refundable if cancellation is given with 24 hours’ notice. You can do this via your booking confirmation or by contacting us within the 24 hour period.

Do you deliver?

We do not currently offer delivery of your pieces, we are a pick up only studio. We hope to be able to offer this in the future.

When do I collect my pottery?

We will contact you when your pottery is ready to collect (usually within 10-21 days). You will have the 5 days that we are open to collect your piece, as we have such a small studio and minimal storage (unless you have contacted us directly and we’ve agreed otherwise with you). But don’t worry we will talk you through it all when you are here!

Is the pottery I paint food safe?

Yes, once the pottery has gone through the glazing and firing process, it will be food and drink safe. However, we advise to avoid microwave and dishwasher use.

Are you wheelchair friendly?

Yes! As a venue, the Goodsheds are wheelchair friendly with ramps to access all the shops and the street food areas, they also have disabled parking. Our studio is small so if you could let us know that you need wheelchair access in advance, we can arrange the tables in a suitable way.

Do you have baby changing facilities?

Yes, the Goodsheds have baby changing facilities in the communal toilets, in the street food area. Unfortunately, as we are such a small studio we do not have room for pushchairs inside.

Do you allow dogs?

Of course, we would be disappointed if you didn’t bring your well behaved pooch!

Do you allow food and drink in the studio?

We ask that only drinks are brought into the studio to keep the tables clear for painting. If you want to take advantage of the food on site, there are amazing street food venders who can cater to your every craving either before or after your session with us, check them out!

If you book a larger party (10+) with us, we can book an event space a few meters away from the studio. In this event space, you can order hot food to your table while you paint. Great for birthday parties, hen do’s and larger gatherings!

Can we drink alcohol in the studio?

We don't have a licence in our studio to serve alcohol. However, there is a Goodshed's bar a few yards from the studio on site, where you can have a drink before or after your painting session. Start your night out painting with us, end it in the bar!

If you book a larger party (10+) with us, we can book an event space a few meters away from the studio. In this event space, you can order food and drinks (including alcohol) from the bar. You can request a party booking through the ‘events’ tab and we will call you to discuss this option.

How do I use my gift voucher?

Gift vouchers are redeemable up to 6 months from the point of purchase. You can bring the voucher in with you and we will deduct the amount from your total bill.

How do your take-home kits work?
You can pre-order a kit online to secure it, or simply ask in store.

Kits are collection only. You pay £7 per kit studio fee, plus the cost of your bisque item.

The kit includes a choice of 6 pots of paints and a paint brush wrapped in a gorgeous gift bag. If you want to add more paints or tools, you can do so for an additional cost. This is the perfect option for a gift, a date night or when we are fully booked but you want your painting fix.

Can you come to my event/venue/workplace to pottery paint?

We would love to hear your ideas for your event and how we can incorporate pottery painting into this. We will travel to set up events in the south Wales area, returning the fired pieces to you when they are completed.

Please fill in the enquiry form on the ‘events’ page to see how we can work with you for your event.

Do you work with charities?

Our vision for the studio definitely includes working with Charities. If you have funding secured and want us to be part of it, get in touch. We would love to work together! To discuss your requirements and ideas please email us at hello.muudstudio@gmail.com

Payment

FOR POTTERY MAKING, payment of the full class or course fees must be made in advance. It is not possible to attend a class or course until full payment has been received. Our teachers and materials are booked and purchased in advance according to bookings.

All classes and courses will state on their listing what is included as part of the cost you pay. Anything that is not included in your pottery class or course that you want to purchase will be charged accordingly.

FOR POTTERY PAINTING, the studio fee is payable when you book. We may at anytime change the price of this booking fee, without notice. Your studio fee does not cover the cost of individual pottery items that you paint during your session.

Cancellation policy

FOR POTTERY MAKING our studio runs courses and workshops at capacity. Teachers and materials are organised in advance for the required number of booked participants.

*All our courses and workshops are refundable up until 14 days prior to the start of the course. After this we may be able to change your course to another date if there are dates available. Please note that from 14 days prior to the start of the course, your booking is non-refundable.

*We encourage you to try your best to attend each week as the course will move quite quickly. However, we know that sometimes missing a session may be unavoidable, so your teacher will try to ensure that you are caught up as much as possible. Please understand we cannot accommodate everyone’s diary changes and sudden change of circumstances, but we will make sure you get the best out of your course.

*If the course or workshop does not have enough participants to run, we reserve the right to reschedule the course up until 7 days prior to the start date. In this scenario we would give you a refund or arrange to reschedule your course if you prefer.

FOR POTTERY PAINTING, your studio fee is refundable only if given 24 hour’s notice. You can do this your reservation confirmation. If you have trouble accessing this, you must email hello.muudstudio@gmail.co.uk If you miss a session without letting us know, then we will not be able to refund or reschedule your booking.

*Gift Cards are non-refundable.

Course content & teacher

FOR POTTERY MAKING, we reserve the right to change the timing, date, content, structure or instructor of a course at our discretion and without notice when necessary. However, we will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible if this is the case.

The Muud Studio shall not be held responsible in respect of any particular session, instructor and/or item of equipment not being available for whatever reason.

Courses and workshops aim to give you a comprehensive and well rounded learning experience. Lessons move quickly, but the instructor/teacher will set out the aims of each session. The art of pottery is as enjoyable as it is challenging, but we hope each participant comes with enthusiasm and an open mind for this very enjoyable experience.

Expectations from finished works

FOR POTTERY MAKING - For environmental reasons (if unwanted pieces are fired they can no longer be recycled and are likely to end up in landfill) as well as due to limited shelf and kiln capacity, we specify the number of pieces made in each course or class which can be fired, glazed, etc. Please refer to the course description for more information.

Please note, the bottom of finished pots will not be glazed as glaze sticks to kiln shelves. You will also be informed of this during your course or workshop. We will not be held responsible for irregularities on your finished work.

The Muud Studio reserves the right to revise and amend firing schedules to make sure all makers' pieces of work can be stored safely and fired properly.

You will be asked to mark your pieces with your initials, which the teacher will communicate to you during the class. This is so we can identify who each piece belongs to and efficiently plan and run the kiln firings. Note that if you do not mark your pieces and we are unable to identify them we may dispose of them. If you do not make your choice of glaze your pieces will be glazed in our studio white.

Technicians will not fire items in which the glaze is deemed to have been applied too thickly or in a way that might damage the kiln. Please ensure you follow the tutor’s advice on glazing to prevent issues.

POTTERY PAINTING - Glazing and firing painted ceramics can be unpredictable. In the event that there is any damage caused by us during the firing process we will refund you for the item or schedule you in to paint the same item again at a date of your choice.

Cancellations

POTTERY MAKING - We reserve the right to cancel a course or class up to and including the date of the course if insufficient bookings have been received and will strive to give as much notice to booked participants as possible. The Muud Studio shall not be responsible or liable for any delay in or failure to run courses if such delay or failure is due to any cause beyond our reasonable control.

Individuals booked onto a cancelled course will be given the option of a full refund or of rescheduling to a future course date if available. The Muud Studio will not be liable for any losses or expenses arising from amendments to the course or cancellations.

The Muud Studio reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to close the Studio at any time during the year.

FOR POTTERY PAINTING, your studio fee is refundable only if given 24 hour’s notice. You can do this by email or by calling our studio, hello.muudstudio@gmail.com However, if you need to cancel at short notice, we may be able to reschedule your booking but this is at our own discretion. If you miss a session without letting us know, then we will not be able to refund or reschedule your booking.

Late attendance

For POTTERY PAINTING, Our sessions last 1.5 hours and run on strict session times. We are particularly busy during the weekends and school holidays, therefore, session times will not be able to be made up if you arrive late. The exception to this is if your session is during the week when it is more quiet and it is then at our discretion to be more lenient with timings.

For POTTERY MAKING, it is the responsibility of the participant to arrive ahead and in time for their booked class. It is down to the discretion of the tutor to not accept a late arrival to a course if the late arrival is potentially detrimental to fellow students. This will be treated as a late cancellation, for which the full course fee will be payable.

Cleaning

POTTERY MAKING - All participants in a class or course are required to clean their workspace and any areas of the Studio that they have used at the end of each class, this is for good studio practice and to prevent the build-up of clay dust.

Collection of the work produced during a Class or Course

FOR POTTERY PAINTING, if you do not collect your pottery at your allocated time or have not agreed otherwise with us at our own discretion, we may donate, dispose of or sell your pottery and send the proceeds to cover a charitable class.

FOR POTTERY MAKING, it takes 1 to 3 weeks for the pieces to be ready for collection after the class. It can sometimes take longer depending on our kiln firing schedule and the weather conditions (for example in the winter months pieces might take longer to dry). f you do not collect your pottery at your allocated time or have not agreed otherwise with us at our own discretion, we may donate, dispose of or sell your pottery and send the proceeds to cover a charitable class.

We will take legal action if we deem necessary.

Gift Cards

Gift Cards are valid for six months from the date of purchase. Upon redemption of a gift card, the  booking will be subject to these Terms and Conditions. If the value of the gift card is lower than the cost of the class the recipient wants to purchase, the remaining balance will need to be paid by the recipient. If the cost of the class is less than the value of the gift card, the gift card will remain in credit for the outstanding amount.

Gift cards cannot be used towards the purchase of another gift card.

Health and Safety

POTTERY MAKING - The Mud Studio takes a diligent approach to health and safety. Students who attend our pottery making classes and workshops are agreeing to abide by the guidelines of our Health & Safety Policy as instructed by tutors. Repeated failure to do so could result in termination of the student’s participation rights on the class or course, without refund.

Students use the Studio at their own risk with awareness of the inherent hazards of a pottery studio environment, which include, but are not limited to, use of sharp tools and sharp edges, exposure to toxic materials, the dangers of using materials and equipment at high temperatures, as well as the risks associated with breathing silica dust.

The Muud Studio accepts no liability for any injury suffered by any student on the Studio premises or outside the Studio.

Each student is required to keep all surfaces clean of clay and glaze, and to clean all areas including the floor around their workstation thoroughly before completing their session. This is to minimise the risks caused by breathing clay and glaze dusts. We practice the wet cleaning method, and everything must be wiped down with a wet sponge and floors with a wet mop. No dusting or use of broom as dry clay is potentially harmful.

The exit must be kept clear at all times. In the event of a fire, Students are asked to make their way to the exit.

Smoking (including e-cigarettes) are forbidden at The Studio.

Covid-19 safety measures

Please note that in line with Government regulations you are no longer required to wear a face mask during your time at the Studio covering your mouth and nose.

In the event of another lockdown all courses will be suspended. The classes will be rescheduled once it is safe and permitted to open the Studio again.

Technical issues and breakages

The Studio is equipped with high quality kiln and equipment. Experienced and trained staff will handle and fire your ceramic work. However, by the nature of ceramics unfortunately there always remains a risk of technical failure and/or breakage of the pieces for which the Studio and trained staff cannot be held responsible.

Clay and glazes disclaimer

We may at any given time change the type of clay and glaze mixtures that we use at the Studio. Because of this, there is no guarantee that the pieces you make will match the finish of other pieces you may have made at an earlier visit or which you may have seen someone else make.

Photography disclaimer

The images used on this website and our social media are illustrative only and used for inspiration and are therefore not representative of the pieces you will achieve during our classes. Each person brings their own personality, creativity, pace and skill into the ceramics process and the outcome of the same session will be different for each participant.

We may at times take photos during your class, session or workshop that we may use for future promotional material, either online, social media or in print. We will ask permission beforehand.
